A
little info about the photographer:
The
photographer, Deana Fleenor, also known by her nickname "Dee", grew
up with horses. Her great and deeply embedded love for the equine began with
Chincoteague ponies owned by her older sisters when she was just a toddler.
By the age thirteen she acquired her very own pony and was taking professional
hunt seat lessons under the supervision of instructor Peter Krukoski. Almost
immediately, she began showing, winning her very first blue ribbon at her very
first show. Some time, and ribbons later, she had several different equine jobs
under her belt. As an assistant instructor, she taught beginner and intermediate
riding lessons to students and assisted in the training of several different
show horses. Dressage riding and showing came later with a great love for the
discipline. The horse she currently owns, lovingly known as "Dok",
she has owned and trained since he was three. Over the years he was also shown
successfully in hunt seat and dressage. Now he is head of the herd and gets
lots of apple snicker treats!
Photography was also a very large
part of her life, wanting and receiving a camera of her own at a very early
age in elementary school. By high school, she always had a camera with her,
stating to her friends that “I am documenting my life through pictures.”
Coming from a family of artists and photographers, today, the influence is evident.
“I desire to tell a beautiful, wonderful story with my images. For me,
horses are naturally the most striking account in the world.”
